    '56/'57 headlamp bezel seal

My '57 was 15 years old when I bought it. Now in total restoration I can see where a rubber gasket once was cemented to the headlamp bezel. The L-cross-sectioned gasket goes between the bezel and the headlamp. I bought replacement gaskets from Paragon but I haven't figured out how to glue them to the bezel. Lots of clothespins? fashion a jig? Tips, anyone?

Contact cement at Home Depot, paint both rubber and bezel , wait about 5 minutes then put them together. Be sure to clean rubber with lacquer thinner before applying adhesive. Mike

Or you can use 3M Super 77 Adhesive.

When I took my '57's apart for lacquer painting in the summer of '65 there was residue of yellow that appeared to be weather strip cement left. It was repainted with enamel in '61. It doesn't appear the bezels or much of the chrome was removed in 61 for the enamel repaint although it was a nice job. No hits, no runs, no errors. Opinions on weather strip cement used at St. Louis???
          Thanks! Steve

Steve, I don't think they were done at St. Louis. The A.I.M. on Sect. 12, Sheet 3 calls the bezel a " Door Assy." This implies that the part number 5947244 was received from Guide with the gasket already installed.

              Frank,

The great John Z Hinckley beat it into my thick head & he would say; "Gary, if it's shown with a part number in the AIM, it was assembled at St. Louis".

With that being said, the assembly is referring only to the headlamp and its bucket only, which is a single part number.

The gasket was not affixed to the headlamp assembly, because it is show and listed with its on part number.

Gary, John was right. You learned well. That is exactly the point I was trying to convey to Steven Brohard. But you're looking at the wrong gasket. Look at the "Door Assy." on 12-3. It doesn't even show the gasket that started this thread because it's part of the "Door Assy." Then reread my reply to Steve. Thanks, Frank

                  Frank,

My bad for misunderstanding that you were referring to the rubber gasket inside the headlamp assembly.

I was referring to the door assembly (bezel) and the rubber gasket (stapled) but it is not included in the diagram. Steve
