Question on having my 69 judged

    Guys,

Registering today to have my recently restored 69 judged at the Texas Regional and wondering if I should add PV to the flt judging. What could be the downside? If the stricter assessment of operations in the PV leads to more scrutiny of something that ultimately fails to pass muster will that potentially affect my flt judging score? This is going to be the one and only time I have my car judged and my ultimate goal is to get a top flt and I don’t want to potentially jeopardize that. Appreciate your guidance on this.

    Mike

IIRC, unlike during the plague, you can't do flight judging and PV at the same regional now..

Michael, PV is something that takes lots of preparation. As Mike pointed out, both can’t be accomplished at the same Regional. Ask the judges to complete operations with PV criteria in mind and they will help you out with advice, you will be glad you did.

Tim is correct you can do the PV or the flight judging at Frisco, but not both. I would suggest using Tim's idea, go for flight and ask the ops team to look at your ops in terms of PV so that they can give it an extra look.

PV is so different from flight Ops judging that just pointing out PV fails in Ops is very incomplete. There are so many things not tested in Ops that are in PV, IMO, I don't see how it would help anyone very much. In our chapter we have had a 1/2 day session for anyone who wants to do PV, going through every item in great detail, as well as teaching people how to operate the items properly to demonstrate proper function. You might get some hints on the items that are in Ops that are not PV quality, but just realize that is a very small section of PV tests.

Mike, another option to consider. If you are thinking about PV, I'm assuming that also means you are considering Duntov Mark of Excellence. If that is the case, the Duntov award requires three steps be completed in 3.5 calendar years. I think most would agree that the PV step is the hardest. After that, the LOGISTICS of getting the car to three events is the hardest.

Given that passing PV the first time out is a bit tricky, I would suggest that you do that first. That way, if the car fails its first PV attempt, your "clock" for the Duntov award hasn't started yet. On the flip side, if you do Flight first, and the car gets its 97% the first time out (without driving points), then the "clock" starts. That MAY make it a bit harder to get the other two requirements done, logistically speaking.

                Michael,

Where are you located? As you can imagine, there are members that are really well versed in prepping for a C3 PV (if that is what you'd like to pursue). I passed the PV on my 70 last year. I would not have gotten through it without the guidance from some people who "have been there"
