    1967 drip edge rosette rivet

I have an early ‘67, September 20, 1966 build date. The drip edge wiring clip on both side had this rosette rivet holding the wiring clip on. I have seen a lot of cars with just a pot rivet and a few with a rosette. Did they run out of pot rivets and used the rosette? It’s a line anything can happen….

    Gary,

Both the ‘66 and ‘67 AIMs call for GM 9424862, which is a pop rivet. My July build ‘66 has pop rivets on both the pass and driver’s side drip rails. But your idea that GM ran out of pop rivets sounds reasonable to me. If you’ve seen rosette rivets on multiple ‘67s, it’s hard for me to imagine that multiple owners switched from common pop rivets to rosette rivets when restoring their cars.

I own ‘67 350 and 2529, both have rosette rivets for the J hooks in the drip edge.

          Gary or Tim,

Does the ‘67 JG not mention the possibility of rosette rivets at those two locations?

I don’t remember it being in the judging manual. I’ll check tomorrow when I’m home.

Thanks for posting, Gary. I have seen a handful of examples of 67s with rosette rivets in place of pop rivets. I wouldn't call it common, but it is a known and accepted feature. It would be nice if someone would post a survey on the DB on this topic. After all, we are all Corvette archeologists... 😊

My Benchmark 67 VIN has rosette rivets. I can provide pics if needed.

I've searched in the newest Judging Manual and found on page 184 of the Chassis section a sentence under "wiring and clips" that addresses the J clips, I don't see a notation about the rivet type. Several other early '67's I've owned had the same characteristic as both 350 and 2529.
If I have missed another area that addresses these rivets, my apologies.

                    Gary and Tim,

Page 155 of the 8th edition does list pop-rivets, or rosette rivets...
It also mentions on DowSmith bodies they are typically bonded to the fiberglass, although pop rivets have also been observed.

                    thx,

                      Mark,

Thanks for that info. It sounds to me like the ‘67 JG already had the topic accurately and reasonably well covered.

My information was from the 7th edition judging guide. It would be interesting to know of the production run of the rivets.

                          Gary,

Just curious. Did the 7th edition make no mention of rosette rivets, i.e., was that info new to the 8th edition?

                            Gary,

All versions of the 7th; 6th; and 5th editions mention rosette rivets.
Text regarding that has not changed all the way back to Summer 2013 (12 years).

                            thx,

I don't believe there is any mention of when the change to round rivets was made. I'm rather surprised that 2529 has rosette rivets.
