    Quadrajet restoration

Who is the recommended Qjet restoration shop. Have the origins; one off my 70 big block and it drips out of the primary Venturi, needs cosmetic, and few other things.

    Hi Matthew,
One of the best restorers of Quadrajets is Lars Grimrud. You can catch him on the C3 corvette forum. He has rebuilt 1000’s of Quadrajets . Very reasonable. Had mine rebuilt by him 5-6 years ago. Still runs excellent.

He doesn't do any recoloring though, does he?

I have used Sparky's Carburetor Service for complete restorations of several Q-jets, including repairing worn fuel inlet threads. He is responsive and does excellent work. Take a look at his website: www.sparkyscarbs.com

          Hi Patrick,
That is true. But the carburetor will run line brand new. He dips them , gets a lot of the grease & rust off.

Cliff Ruggles wrote the book on Q-Jets, but retired from rebuilding them a few years ago. He still sells parts, his book and some limited services; see https://cliffshighperformance.com

He fixed/restored a few Q-Jets several years ago; my 1970 454 runs like it's fuel injected and has an incredibly smooth idle. A couple had nozzle drip, buggered up idle bypass and other issues which he resolved.

Reach out to him and he'll refer you to one of his prodigies who trained under him and are probably very good (although I don't have direct experience).

Lars did two for me this year. One was worth replating...and he did that. I would not think about going anywhere else myself. A total pro and gentleman.

Lars rebuilt an eBay '72 QJ for my LS-5 a little over a year ago - it needed some exterior parts which he replaced with the proper style. When I mounted it, it started right up, needed practically no adjustment for idle, and continues to work fantastically. He rebuilds them to a level that is way beyond just a kit, then he fine tunes them on his test engine.

Send Lars an email with pics of your carb, he'll let you know how to go about sending it to him. He's very specific on how carbs are sent so they are not damaged in transit.

Lars and Ruggles know each other. I remember Cliff writing that they align closely on their approach to Q-Jets. Two old timers.

Duke can chime in here, but I believe he and Lars and John Hinckley collaborated on distributor advance and tuning papers. He's been around the carb & tuning circles for quite a few minutes now.
