Yes, I removed the rear valance panel. Didn't really have any problems lining up the exhaust tips. The hangars are slotted, giving you some wiggle room LT to RT and UP and DOWN.

It was really a pretty easy, straight forward job. I had three of my buddies over to help out.

Too early. We started at about 9:00 AM.

Of course, as the old Jimmy Buffett lyrics say: "It's 5 o'clock somewhere".

FYI - on seeing Chuck's pictures, I usually blackout the exhaust before I install it. That avoids getting black paint somewhere I don't want it on the car.

I do as well. Since you can't get to the top of the mufflers or pipes with the body on the chassis, this is the only way.

Quick piece of history....Years ago (probably late 80's) I bought an NOS exhaust from my local Chevy dealer. The rear pipes and mufflers came blacked out already. They were not off road pipes. This was a 2" base motor set of pipes and mufflers. During a conversation with several other NCRS members about chassis and exhaust black out I told this story. I have no photo evidence of this 40 years later, but there was absolutely not a single person in attendance that believed me. So, not wanting to sound like I was crazy...I asked all of them if they had ever purchased an exhaust system from a Chevy dealer in the past. All responded with a NO!

I have also seen a set that was already blacked out, but for a later year.
              So, you're not crazy.

I saw a NOS muffler pair for a 1971 Corvette Big Block (2 1/2-inch system), in the boxes with blackout applied. This blackout looked thinner and more evenly applied than that on my factory 1970 system. I saw it, and several of my friends saw it as well. You are not alone.

I think that the eyes-on were in the pre-smartphone era. You know, back when pictures cost you money.

I clearly remember those days.. Most of what happened never actually happened, since no photos were taken.

I chose not to paint it. If you look, the system I removed was not blacked out either. It was painted with hi-heat aluminum paint.

I choose my "NCRS battles", and I simply prefer the non-blackout look. Same thing with duplicating factory overspray, drips, runs, etc.

If/when I have the car judged again, I realize that I'll take a hit, but that's my choice.
