    1956/57 Drivers Door Mirror

I am trying to mount the drivers door mirror. Someone had sent me some measurements for the location. I drilled the holes but they exit under the inner edge of the door panel. You can see and reach the bolts when you open the door. I thought I had drilled in the wrong spot but just today I saw picture of the first 57 Fulie and with door open you can see the bolt and nut for the mounting of the side mirror. I am assuming this is correct??

    thanks
    Sheldon

    Sheldon,

You should be able to where the original holes were from inside the door?

Yes, both screws/nuts are in plain sight under the outer skin of the door where it closes off the gap between the fender and the door hinge pillar. IFIRC, I probably located my holes as Gary suggested as I had to redrill mine also & recall it was kind of funky getting the drill located and straight because of the inner panel of the door. Just for reference, rear most mirror mtg hole is about 2-1/2 inch ahead of the corner of the outer skin where it tucks in to clear the windshield & becomes the window sill for the door glass. That hole is approx 1-5/8 inch outboard of that same corner. Hope this helps.

Sheldon, when it quits raining I will go over and check my '57. As Gary and Rod said I bought it Nov '64 and am certain the mirror is in original location and no repairs. You can see the bolts and nuts clearly. I had the mirror off for a repaint in '65 and no repairs were done. Good luck! Steve
