1973 fuel tank filler neck color

The filler neck on my 73 coupe is painted black, and I've learned from this forum that it should be terne plated. I'll be removing the black paint, and I'll then have a choice to make. I either get it plated with terne (or niterne) if possible, or I can paint it a light gray, fuel resistant spray paint. Has anyone done either of these things? Any advice? --thanks

    David,

I bet Richard Fortier knows if it can be terne plated. And he might even know of a plating company who can do it.

Fuel Tank on your 1973 is judged under Chassis. Gas Tank and Mounting Straps are assigned 8 Originality and 6 Condition points (out of 4500 total points in Flight Judging). Tank and straps are evaluated under our CDCIF Matrix Judging System. Configuration, Date, Completeness, Installation, and Finish. A paint issue only, would likely result in a single (1) point deduction (4500 total points).

You might consider loss/gain of a single point vs cost when assessing your actions.

Thanks Gary and David. I decided to take the hit on the one point.

You might find the correct plating under the black paint.
