    North Carolina Engine Builder Recommendations?

    Hi Folks -

I’m in central North Carolina. Looking for engine builder recommendations for my numbers matching 327 based on your personal experience. Want someone who:
    1. Can do a good job on a stock rebuild.
    2. Will respect that the block stamp pad must not be disturbed in any way.
    3. Is located within a reasonable distance (in the greater Charlotte-Raleigh-Fayetteville area).
    4. Engine is not operable, but except for needing engine repair, coolant, battery and gas, the car is drivable. Will have it trucked to the builder’s location for diagnosis, removal, repair and reinstallation as needed.

    Recommendations?

PM’s citing disappointing experiences welcome too, and will be kept confidential. TIA!

    Bob

Heintz brothers in Statesville. They did my L79. Knew to preserve the pad. I had a helicoil back out from some previous rebuild and Heintz sent a tech to my house to fix it. That is customer service.
They ran the engine and had me come and watch.
Three other chapter members have used them.

I’m an old drag racer and the Heintz name is well known and respected. Likely your engine will need an overbore. Ask them to use torque plates when honing. You’ll get round bores and better sealing rings. A little extra money but well worth it. If they are to refurbish the heads, do some research before adding hardened valve seats…not sure you really need them. If the decks (block) are flat you may not need to have them resurfaced. Finally, you can’t go wrong with having a professional engine builder do your engine IMO.
