I have a Green Beret cousin MIA Vietnam 7/3/67, name on the wall in DC. No body found. My uncle was a WWII ball turret gunner (bottom of plane) on a B17 bomber out of England, 25 bombing runs, he shot down two German planes, a bullet thru his little 4 ft turret missed him, another time the plane shot up and two of the 10 crew bailed out but he stayed with plane and barely make it to base. Then luck on his side again when a week after relieved of duty, the plane got a new crew and was shot down by six enemy planes that stayed with it to the ground, six killed and two bailed out to become prisoners. Can't imagine the fear of that job especially when you just came from the farm. Wars mean lots of family suffering. I feel most of our younger generation have no understanding of this. This stuff haunts me sometimes.
