    C2 Tachometer issue

Last year I had my Distributor rebuilt, with new tachometer gears. I also bought a new Tachometer for the dash and a new cable and housing. After installing, the Tachometer worked briefly. I don't believe the gears stripped. Anyone have suggestions about what to check, such as the cable installation.
The new cable had a feral attached to one end. Does this go into the end at the tach, or at the distributor end?

    Thanks,
    Bill

Bill, test the tach by removing the shielding cover so you can access the tach cable with a battery operated
drill that you can get on the square tach cable, snug is good.
Have a friend watch the tach gauge while you spin the cable with the drill.
Tach registers RPM as the drill turns the cable, tach gauge is OK. It may have to turn backwards for this test
Do you have a spare cable that you can use to install in the distributor.
if not go to the auto parts house & buy a cable only, no housing
Or Borrow one from a buddy.
All you need to do with it is to insert it into the distributor, Start the engine.
The short cable you put into the distributor should be turning.
Really, keep that one short so it dosent hurt you or the Corvette
If the cable turns the distributor is OK.

Now you have tested it all, pretty much and the problem part
    should raise its uglyness.

    OK? Scott

I recently bought a repro tach cable (and housing) for a small block '65. The d a r n thing (cable itself) is a FULL INCH TO SHORT.

Tach now works fine with a used one (original cable from a '67). I can measure the repro length and add the length in a few hours.

LATER EDIT: The two short repo cable is 24 inches long, end to end. If yours is also that length, it could be your issue.

If you find that the cable is the issue (and, most part's houses cables are junk), here's where you can buy one knowing that it will function reliably and look perfect...https://deluxespeedometer.com/
