    Clem Zahrobsky passing

Long time Pittsburgh area Corvette expert and enthusiast, Clem Zahrobsky, recently passed. Clem helped to start the Corvette Club of Western Pa. , was an active member of the Vette Heads with John Hinckely, knew more about Holley Carburetors, and lived near me. He was always helping me with my restoration projects and will be missed.

Clem was always willing to share and help me with carburetor problems and questions.

          Rest in peace, Clem.

I am greatly saddened. Clem was one of the greatest and most knowledgeable Corvette enthusiasts of all time. We all will greatly miss him.

Clem bootlegged an engine simulation program to me that got me started on that path twenty years ago. He also sent me a copy of the Washburn Team's 1963 SCCA racing season notes, and other documents like a bunch of information on AFB carburetors. The most interesting revelation from the notes was that the tean had so many problems with the Z-06's (one of the first batch of six build in October '62) HD brake system, they ended up with what was essentially the J-65 system. From my own experience hot lapping my 340 HP SWC at Kent back then they were spot on. The J-65 system worked great and was an excellent way to learn pedal modulation techniques.

Clem was really a great guy with a wealth of knowledge about early SCCA racing, vintage Chevy engines, and getting the most performance out of them. He had a good life!

              P. S. In case you don't know of the Washburn team, it was owned/sponsored by Shelley Washburn's Chevrolet dealership in Santa Barbara, CA and Bob Bondurant was the driver. They had so many problems with their '63 Z-06 and Cobras that they switched from AP to CM mid-season at which point they could modify the car at will, and it ended more competitive in CM than AP.

Vic Edelbrock Jr. vintage raced that Z06 for years (big wreck at Palm Springs back in the early nineties that I witnessed it). His daughter raced it after he passed, but I'm not sure of its current status.

Rest in Peace Clem. An absolute fountain of knowledge and a great guy is now gone. I was always able to get a knowledgeable answer from Clem. Tough to watch these losses as we all get older.
