69 Standard Interior Door Panel Question

    Hello All -

Visually or physically for judging purposes (other than the date on inside of panel) is there any difference between a standard interior door panel of a 69 compared to a standard panel for a 70-76?

    Thanks,
    Vic

    Hi Vic,

Although at a glance they look pretty close under a close look I believe you will find the 69 panels have a separate "comfortweave" insert and the 70-76 std panel has only a molded cavity with no insert. In short, they are not going to pass judging for a '69 as the recess looks completely different. Sorry-

PS, I don't believe there was a Deluxe door panel in '68 or '69; I recall that started in '70.

I have owned both a '69 and '76. Steve is correct.

In addition, as I recall the 1970+ door panels had a simulated "stitch" along the entire length of the top of the panel. 1968-69 did not have that feature.

Also, you are correct in that 1968-69 did not have a custom interior option.

Some the 1970 and later interior trim parts later became SERVICE for 1969. One that I specifically recall was the forward center console. The 1970+ console had the simulated stitching on the top of both sides whereas the 1969 did not. But, the 1970 console became SERVICE for 1969 very early-on.

There is also a difference between early and late '69 door panels. Here are 2 photos showing the difference. The first with the shorter chrome trim is an original from my October 68 car. The second is an NOS panel I got after I damaged the passenger side original. I don't know what the date stamped on the newer one is since it is on the car but one of the 2 originals is stamped October 14, 1968 and the other is stamped October 41, 1968.

            All-----

The original 1969 Corvette door panels were GM #3952991/2 (black). These were discontinued from SERVICE in July, 1969 and replaced by GM #3964101/2. Just when the PRODUCTION changeover occurred I do not know but the SERVICE change date implies it was late in the model year. As it turns out, the 1970 panels never replaced the 1969 panels for 1969 SERVICE. The 3964101/2 (and all part numbers for the other colors) were all discontinued without supercession in the 1975-78 period.

Are there also stamped part numbers? If so, they should begin with "39".

                  Hi Joe,
I don't recall that my cards had part numbers - or I would have recorded them. Just the Alpha Numeric date stamps.
I don't want to pull the off again....ever.

I don't blame you. And, I would not suggest that you should.

here are 2 photos of the original passenger side door panel from my October 68 car. The only marking is the date stamped "October 17 1968". I was mistaken in my earlier post that it was October 14. There is no other markings or part numbers.
