1966 stock 4 speed hard to get in reverse. The "T" handle does not appear to do anything. I bought a new "shifter repair kit" from Corvette Central which has the "T" handle and the long rod that it connects to. Is this an easy repair or does it have to have the shifter removed? I know just enough to "mess" it up!! Thanks

Chris - check out the pic I've attached. You'll see a large pin that's typically screwed into the shifter body (and then tack welded in place) and just to the right of the pin you will see the bottom end of the rod attached to the T-handle. When you lift the T handle, the rod rises and allows the shifter shaft to move over enough to engage the reverse rod on the trans. I've seen a few different rod retention methods to the T handle and it sounds like the rod is not rising enough to clear. Has this been going on for a while?
If you pull the T handle and rod completely out, are you able to get the shifter into reverse?

Using the T handle does nothing right now. Only way I can get reverse is to basically slap the stick to the left so it will go over. The T handed wants to twist to the right (clockwise to about 11 o'clock) to get into reverse! Is this something I can do from the topside of the shifter (remove the boot?) or does this need to be done under the car? Thanks- Top
