    73 Repro Trim Ring Fitment

I bought a set of repro 4-clip trim rings (made in Taiwan) for my 73 with brand new rallye wheels. The tire shop that installed the wheels gave up on trying to install the trims, so I got the car home and tried it myself. With two people (my wife's a trouper), a large screw driver and a mallet I manged to get the third clip attached, but I don't see how the fourth one can go on without something breaking. BTW, these were purchased from Zip.

Has anyone had success with these trim rings? Are they known to not fit?

David, was this the case with all four wheels? Might want to contact ZIP to see if they have encountered this before. Good Luck! Steve

Will they fit on an original GM wheel?
I have seen problems with reproduction rally wheels not being to spec.

Well I never thought they'd get that wrong, but it turns out they did. My repro wheels are about a quarter inch smaller in diameter than my original spare. Thanks!

          Yup.

Just find some real ones and give them a new coat of paint if needed.

A final note to close out the topic. My original spare wheel has a diameter of about 16 3/8 inches. The repro wheel has a diameter of about 16 1/8 inches. That quarter inch is enough to keep the trim rings from fitting.
