Hi Bill,
My use of that word may come across harsh and i really am not here simply to cause a stir though some will cast me as such .. but you did ask for thoughts. Restoration by definition is about bringing something back to original as close as possible. Taking a new carb and stamping it with an unauthentic historical date for the purposes of winning an award I do not see how that is at all consistent with restoration IMHO and question whether NCRS should be about that but what do i know. Best of luck and enjoy your car no matter what.

When I had my '67 L79 judged back in 2016 at the Lone Star Regional, the original carburetor was off the car and on it's way to Phil Cancilla for restoration. In its place was a factory replacement Holley 4160 List 3810. There are a total of 60 points available for the carburetor...40 for originality and 20 for condition. I lost 9 points for originality and 0 points for condition...so a total of 9 points lost out of 60.
When I had the same car judged in 2017 at the same event, I lost 8 originality points and 0 for condition.Leif

Bingo!! I, ultimately, installed the original, dated carburetor (restored by Phil Cancilla) and it ran flawlessly. Never had it judged again after 2018, though.Leif
