My January 66 L72 also has a one-hook retainer spring and I'm 99.9% sure it's original.

Someone should start collecting data on ‘66s with one-hook springs so that the JG can be improved. It’s looking pretty likely that that one-hook springs lasted past the December date stated in the JG.

Dave, while I have you, would you be willing to add the description of your brake light switch to my research project to improve that item in the ‘66 JG? If so, please contact me at gsb1966 (@) Comcast (dot) net.
