    1978-1979 Technical Manual

1978-1979 Battery. I am new to NCRS and have a 1978 25th Anniversary. When reviewing the Originality Points, I am confused. The Delco Freedom Batteries are no longer available so the only option you have is to purchase a non-Delco Battery. You can find a original Delco Battery (non-functional) on Ebay for around $500. Has this issue been addressed in the Technical Manual and updated? Would appreciate a explanation.
    Thanks Dana

There is a Standard Deduction sheet for items such as this. Please see the battery section.

There is also a sheet on judging paint and judging condition.

Thanks for the info. Is what you posted for the 78-79 corvette. I have the Technical Information Manual and Judging Manual, but it shows a different requirement than what you posted.

Ok so this is the standard deduction sheet that is used.

Will put it with my manual.
        Again, thanks.

As I recall the Standard Deductions overrides the Judging Manual/Judging sheets, except for a few items for C5's and C6's. You can order the sheets from the NCRS Store or look for one at the NCRS Store at the Regional Meet in Clemson next month.

Dana...great to get a forum post on a 78 Corvette. We don't get many but we love em!

So...your manual is 25 years old and, as you'll see, conflicts with more current NCRS Judging Reference Guides. Given that, I have replaced batteries with AC Delco batteries for years. Autozone offers AC Delcos as well as Menards. Look at the cranking amps and I'm sure you'll find a compatible battery. You do not have to settle for a non-AC Delco battery but the standard deductations still apply.

The 78-79 manual is in a revision phase...so if you have questions feel free to post on the forum and someone will jump in to assist.

Agree with Tom. I just grabbed a Delco replacement from Menards for my SA. Just have to accept the standard deduction in lieu of a good repop being available. Think mine was like $125ish.
