    1963 Corvette 4-Seat Concept

I've ATTACHED a PDF scan from Special Interest Autos magazine, covering the Corvette 4-Seat Concept.
I've also included a couple color images, as well as an animation I created from the old GM photos.

The story goes that when the car was shown to GM senior executives one of them (may have been CEO Frederick Donner) got into the back seat and needed assistance getting out, and that was the end of the four-seat Corvette.

Note that the photo shows an adult male and female sitting, seemingly comfortably, in the back seat. Yeah, right, but no room for a hat! The end of the four-seat Corvette was no loss as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, as young man I found that two adults could cozy up back there while watching "2001 A Space Odessey" at a drive-in theater, but we need to keep the TDB G-rated.

IIRC it was Don Yenko who came up with an aftermarket rear seat that was suitable for a couple of little kids.

Totally unacceptable, where would you put the 36.5 gallon gas tank?

I wonder what the dimensions were and would it have been available as a 2 and 4 passenger car ?

Bill- If you download the PDF article that I posted, it answers some of your questions.

No problem, Mike... but the tanker stretch limo option, was even uglier:

Jack got it thanks. Looks like it would be as uncomfortable to get in and out of as a Camaro. Too bad the prototype was destroyed. I would love to see one of the 78 or 79,s that were stretched. Might be good for bringing the grand kids to shows in.

Some Corvette prototype cars are best not put into production, this would be one of those.

Camaro? ...ever tried to get into and out of the back seat of a Vega? Then there's the "back seat" in a Porsche 911. I've always wondered why they wasted money on that joke of a back seat rather than making decent luggage/cargo space.

My '66 Mustang fastback was like that, too...
knees up in your face...i rarely had the seats up so I could use what was a fairly generous open storage space back there
and don't get back there if you're claustrophobic !
                      thx,
                      Mark

My two kids, when they were little, could easily sit in the back seat of my 911 Turbo. And the back seats folded down for luggage space, so really not a bad arrangement.

Glad Shelby knew what to do with the '65 GT350, put the spare tire there under a cover and take the useless backseats out. attachment1708555069825.jpg

I have some old mags with the advertisement of the seats and saw one in the mid 60's in Ft. Wayne, IN parked in the customer lot at Hefner Chevrolet. IIRC it was when I bought an extra set of round mufflers for my '57.
