1961-1962 judging manual 6th edition page 15 interior section has a paragraph called "carpet retaining screws" with a drawing showing two screws on each side of the console hump. Does anyone have these installed on an original known car. I can't find any holes in the fiberglass where these would have been originally installed on my 62 car. I don't want to add these incorrectly. the drawing in the judging book is confusing. the book does have two 'close up' pictures of the screws , but it is no help in locating them on the hump.

You are correct about asking for clarification. As an owner NEVER change, what you believe to be an original car, to match a Judging Guide. Do your research first. Judging Guides get updated as we learn more about these cars.

62carpetlh.jpg Hope these help. Not the best photos but they are from an original car.
You can only see the top screw on the driver side.

Lou Cerchio, thank you for checking. i see the screw under the gas pedal. I was looking in the completely wrong place on my car. The Judging manual is no help, and I thought the screws were back by the seat! When it warms up I will have to crawl under and look on the fire wall area for evidence of factory screw holes. Do you think there are two screws on each side?- Top

with the carpet out of the car and all the glues and other adhesives are clean off the floor by the trans tunnel, you will find the 2 holes. There is no need to crawl inder the car. In my case, I actually found one of the original screw, but it was too far gone to reuse. The screws that the Corvette supply house are not correct. They are too long and have a pointed end. Originals have a flattened end with a groove on the side as a cutting aid.- Top

I crawled under the car to install the screws. After removing the old carpet and cleaning the floor, I found their holes on the top side. But then when you lay down the carpet, you can't locate them again. And I hate to drill new holes in my fiberglass. So I located the screw holes from the top and inserted pins or nails in the holes so I could see them from the underside. Then I put the carpet in place being careful not to push the nails through. Then I crawled under the car, found the pins or nails I had inserted, removed them, and pushed pins up through the floorboards and carpet. Now I have the carpet in place and pins sticking up in the 4 places where the screws will go. Replace the pins with the correct screws from the top. I believe the factory used little or no adhesive to install the carpet.- Top

thanks all. as my carpet is also installed, I certainly don't want to take it back out, so I plan on inserting a locater thru the factory holes from underneath and into the new carpet, thus the screws (correct ones as noted by Pat above) will go back in the original holes- Top
