    Ignition key switch

Can’t turn ignition switch to off position to release key. Any thoughts? ‘73 C3. Telescoping/tilt steering wheel.

    Allen,

I'll let others more experienced with the '73 Tele/Tilt respond, but because the key cannot be released unless placed in Reverse, could be an adjustment required with the reverse linkage and the cable assembly that goes to the base of the steering column at the engine side firewall interface. Also look for broken cable or a detached retaining clip there.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate your help. My Vette has an automatic transmission if that matters. The cable going to the lever on the steering column appears intact and retaining clip in place. Thanks again.

Yep, the lock-out cable from the trans to the column must be all the way down (up?) for the key to be released (when the trans is in Park). If that's what's causing the issue, a simple test would be to disconnect the cable from the firewall bracket and try to remove the key. I haven't crawled under my '72 auto in a while, but there may be an adjustment to this cable or the shift cable since they share a common lever connection - likely described in the Service Manual.

Try turning the steering wheel a bit to the left and right while turning the key to the "lock" position.
