1967 big block starter heat soak issue

What are guys doing to resolve starter heat soak on big blocks. I have a 1967 big block that has this issue and I understand big blocks up thru 1967 did not have starter heat shields. I was thinking of getting a DEI heat wrap for my starter. Not sure if it will work. What have others done to resolve this issue?
    Thx!

This problem is not unique to big blocks. My 1969 small block suffered from it almost from the day it was new. You might try installing an insulating pad, especially around the solenoid which is usually the source of the hot restart problem.

For me, the only permanent solution was the installation of a slave solenoid.

      Hi Joe,

When you say "slave solenoid", what do you mean by that ?
      thx,

The hot restart problem is usually caused by heat-induced resistance in the purple wire from the starter switch to the "S" terminal on the solenoid. A slave solenoid is a remotely mounted solenoid to which the starter switch wire (purple wire) is re-located. Then, a new, heavier gauge wire is run from the slave solenoid to the "S" terminal of the on-starter solenoid. In this manner full voltage to the on-starter solenoid is assured under all conditions. I can say that in my case, it completely eliminated the hot restart problem forever. I could (and did) hot restart my car in the summer in Death Valley.

Remote (i.e. "slave") solenoid kits are easily available and include wiring instructions. Is it a deviation from original configuration? Of course it is. But, it absolutely resolves the hot restart problem. Don't do the mod to a "trailer queen" type car. But, if one drives their car in the summer, do it.

Here's an example of a slave solenoid kit:

          Hi Joe,

thanks very much for that info...
I have not had hot start issues, but it's good to know this in the event I ever do...

          thx,
          Mark
