    '66 Antenna Coax Threaded Connector

Having some AM/FM reception issues on my '66 and have traced it to a bad connection at the coax to antenna. I see suppliers offer replacement cables but before I went that route of splicing or threading in a new coax, I was hoping to first just renew the threaded female connector on the coax. Cannot seem to find one with the 9/16 x 20 threaded serrated nut.

Just checking to see if anyone knows a source of the antenna end coax connector on 63-66 cars.

Older GM antennas often used germanium diodes, while newer models may use silicon diodes. If you break the diode from the copper wire the antenna will essentially be useless. Go for a new/NOS cable.

I am going to have to show my ignorance here. Are the diodes located somewhere along the cable length? All I was hoping to do here was change the coax connector or if I purchased a new cable cut and splice the cable about 18" from the end so the splice is located under the carpet in the 'storage area'.

As I recall the diode is near the end at the antenna, under the connector.

About 20 years ago I tried to do what you are attempting on my 63 antenna cable. Not knowing there was a diode there I broke it. A new cable was the solution for me.
