    63 Doors

Replacing the inside door openers on my 63. Still work but are pretty sloppy and rattle a bit when driving. Replacements are readily available.

I noticed some faded out numbers on the inside of the passenger door skin. Not sure what to make of it.

BodyNumberDoor.jpgI think those are the body number, my '66 had "326" on the inside of the doors, and that same number was on the firewall.

Not sure if this applies to the '63 model year or not, but Body Shop job numbers were written on various parts and in various places so the right part(s) met the right car on the body shop line at right time...

kinda hard to read yours, but Body shop numbers typically ranged from 1 to 500 and then they'd start over again...
      thx,
      Mark

          My body number is 4145.
Partial VIN is 109048 so my job number would be 048.

            Tom,

As Mark stated, the "job #" was an assembly line running order sequence that started at 1 and ran up to 500 and then stared over at 1. There should be no direct correlation between job # and VIN.

That looks more like dirty fibers imbedded in the glass. The glass fiber was clear but if someone painted a number or a stripe on the roll of glass, that is what it would look like.

Looking again I can buy the dirty fiber idea.

Is there any way to remove the primer and expose the job number on my door?

I did a little research online and some say the number may also be on the interior side of the bulkhead behind the seats?

Also is the body number marked anywhere on the body?

                Thanks

Those build numbers are all over the car. Under the bulkhead behind the fuel tank, Passenger footwell below the engine compartment blackout, inner door area, sometimes on the dash housing. I don't really understand why you want to expose them?

If curiosity is the main concern. Just climb under the back of the car. The number is in plain sight behind the fuel tank. That part of the body is usually very clean.

The bottom is painted. No numbers visible. Thank you.
