Has anyone ever lubricated their heat riser ? Does it help ?

Re: Heat riser
This is the current GM lubricant.
It worked well for me, but I consider it a way to get through Ops or a PV, not a permanent fix.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: Heat riser
Agreed lube isn't permanent but may work for short term. That duration depends how far gone the bushings are. The exhaust pulses will simply blow out the lube. Copper anti seize or graphite may last a little longer. Both are a band-aid.
To function 100% for PV it needs to be re-bushed with a new shaft and spring. Not a hard job for an experienced wrench. The exhaust manifold needs to come off. Are the parts available??
It can be fully eliminated or made inactive yet visually intact if PV isn't on your list.
Fully blocking off the intake crossover and eliminating the riser valve in the exhaust manifold is a good performance enhancement.
The performance advantages are a cooler intake, cooler carb, and the paint wont ever burn off the intake.
It will be somewhat cold blooded but the choke can be adjusted to compensate.- Top

Re: Heat riser
I would just bite the bullet and take the "flapper" off with your dremel. See below.
No matter what you do to try to fix it will get stuck sooner or later and nothing
good happens when this happens. Been There Done That. LarryLarry

Re: Heat riser
Thanks all I am in a bit of a disagreement with someone on how the lube works. I believed ( as stated) that the lube does not last. I have removed the gate from many of the valves. PV does not concern me. Thanks Happy Thanksgiving.- Top

Re: Heat riser
I use NOS originals whenever I can, and they work much better.
YMMV, as they say.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS
