    C1 master cylinder ?

    I have a master cylinder I believe to be for a C1.

    On the outboard side:
    DELCO
    MORAINE PRODUCTS DIV
    DAYTON O USA

    On the inboard side:
    small #'s: 5450 large #'s 233
1" DIA Looks like a date stamp 3-8

End Plug: 545480 320-G These are stamped.

    Cap:
USE GMC BRAKE FLUID Stamped in the center of the bolt head part W over 32

Can anyone identify this Master Cylinder?

      Re: C1 master cylinder ?

      Brian,

IIRC on original master cylinders 5450233 were all the same size.

Master cylinders with large 233 were service replacements.

          Gary,
According to the 5th Edition of the Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide, "Beginning about January 1959, the master cylinder's casting number has the last three numbers ("022") in larger digits". In my experience I have found this to be correct thru 1962 production.

            Rick,

5450233 was 1956 and may have been installed on early1957 models until inventory was depleted up to approximately 1957 VIN 1500.

Last three digits in the casting numbers 233 and 022 are same size as all other digits (not larger, as in later master cylinder castings).

              Gary,

My mistake I read the casting number initially as 022.
