Re: Safe to Drive with four functional lug nuts?

Michigan has no inspection for anything. Anything that has 4 wheels and an engine can be on the roads. We also loosened the requirements for "Historic" or "Year Of" plates to allow use any time between Memorial Day and Labor Day. It is now considered "display" to simply drive the vehicle on any road at any time.

Yes - and that's why I asked about our vintage cars.

Antique/Historic vehicles have been Pennsylvania-State-Inspection exempt for a long time, too.

And PA places restrictions on their use, including but not limited to:

The use of antique, classic and vintage registration plates is governed by Section 1340 of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, which states: “It is unlawful for any person to operate a motorcycle or vehicle with antique, classic, vintage, collectible or historic military vehicle registration plates for general daily transportation. Permitted use shall be limited to participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, occasional transportation and similar uses.” Occasional transportation and similar uses are defined as no more than one day a week. Antique, Classic, and Vintage registration plates may not be displayed on a vehicle used to transport people or property. < I have no idea what this means ?
I've been driving my '70 with antique registration for years. It's not a daily driver but I do go on "adventure" tours for a day or less. If pulled over my cover story was going to be I'm headed to a shop for maintenance. Well, a few years ago Texas DPS pulled me over. The trooper never questioned the registration; instead he had lots of car guy questions. After popping the hood and showing him around the car, he gave a verbal warning before saying goodbye.

A senior citizen in a cool car gets some slack.

It's a simple DIY job to remove the front hub from a drum brake C2. Buy a correct wheel stud and if you don't have a ten ton press, take it to a machine shop. A good one should be able to replace it while you wait.

As long as you have the hub off why not repack the front wheel bearings? Do you know the last time it was done? Buy a couple of seals along with the new stud and do both sides.

I assume you have a 1963 Corvette Shop Manual to understand how adjust the wheel bearings when installing the hubs. If not DO NOT touch your car until you obtain one and read the instructions.

          X2 what Duke said.

If you need new seals bearings and races, BDI Inc has non-china parts. Make sure you ask for other than china.

Emissions checked but not safety... does Texas have their priorities backwards?
