How to remove AC control cables on '67 factory AC

Ultimately trying to remove radio speaker in a factory AC. After removing glove box, right side duct work, and a few other things, I clearly need to remove the two AC control cables. I have disconnected the wire loop ends to both cables, removed the knobs, nut etc., but can't figure out how the AC vent center adapter (the black plastic diverter that the two cables run through. Sits on the backside of the upper center dash vent and the radio speaker. The two controls cases run through each side and out the upper dash). Does the front diverter vent bezel hold this Ac vent center adapter in place? I have popped this bezel out just so far, but don't want to proceed until I get some guidance. There appears to be two "hair pin" clips holding the diffuser in the bezel and center adapter. Thanks in advance for your guidance and knowledge.

Gary good luck I gave up on replacing my C 60 speaker 2 years ago. I believe I got everthing out of the way but the center dash duct. I figure I have to take out the cluster. Remember the C 60 speaker is thinner than a non AC car.

Bill, I am not quite where you ended up yet, so taking it slow and easy. I find walking away for a day or two sometimes makes thing clearer, but unfortunately not easier. I have the front bezel off of the upper center vent and the cables unattached at the ends, but still not getting much movement on the plastic diverter on the backside. I checked to see what the diverter looks like via Zip parts and don't see any hardware used to hold it in, so slow and steady. I am aware of the AC versus non-AC speaker profile. Thanks.

I just recently replaced the speaker in my 67 A/C car. Did not have to remove the cables or duct. Did have to remove gauge cluster. Put in S&M speaker. Sounds good.

Well Gary I see Steve has answered our question. The gauge cluster has to come out. So along with new carpet this winter I will pull the cluster to instal the speaker. I have a reconditioned C 60 speaker. I Guess I better get started. Thanks for the info Steve. Did you pull the steering column as well ?? I have removed clusters without I suppose I. Long run it is easier to pull column
