    brake master cylinder

    Can a power brake master cylinder be used on a non power brake car? These are both factory master cylinders for a 64. Would the push rod from the brake pedal need to be changed?

    You can use a non PB MC with a vac booster for a PB system - they use a different length push rod - available from most vendors.

      Thanks ED; I wonder if a power brake booster would bolt up to the existing master cylinder and pedal bracket bolts on the car. It is a non power brake car. If I remember correctly if you added power brakes to a c3 you had to modify the firewall.

        When I bought my 64 it had a PB booster on it but it also had a non PB MC on it. I removed the booster. You will have to drill two holes in the firewall to mount the booster - you will use the 2 existing holes for the MC and drill two more above the original holes - not hard to do. You can still use your original brake line from the MC to the first fitting but you will have to move it some to connect to where the MC is located. Don't know what booster you are getting - do a hood clearance check before slamming the hood for the first time. After market boosters are not all the same size as OEM boosters.

          Thanks Ed;
          Your information and experience will help me decide if I want to add Power brakes to my car.
