    Underside of 78 hood-couple questions

Off my 78 PC and got it cleaned up today.
Do the #s mean anything? They were yellow but soap I used to clean it up turned them white.
When was black-out applied? Before or after painted. On or off the car.
Some black paint was sprayed at a later date. Part of a detail job, I suppose. Most of it was flaked and got it off.IMG_2805.jpgIMG_2804.jpg
If I was to spray some new semi-gloss black paint, hit the whole underneath? There is no paint in the front part of underneath.

My guess they correspond to the VIN.

Blackout was applied after body paint; the hood was attached by the hinges.

What's underneath? Blackout was applied to the entire engine compartment. Blackout was closer to semi-flat, Krylon 1613. I'll send you something.

Backside of hood is what I meant to say. There doesn't seem to have ever had any paint up at the hood nose area.
The blackout would have been applied before insulation blanket installed?
My VIN is not the same as those #'s.
I know very little of the cars past history. It may not be the hood car was born with. I do know the left front fender was replaced at some point before I got it.

Yes to blackout before hood insulation. I suppose its possible that workers painted the hood perimeter and left the underneath (the insulation) unpainted. But there would have been no consistency to that application...worker dependent. I doubt anyone has every studied that aspect of blackout application...perhaps early C3s?
