Re: 1st Post! Advice on replacing broken 1960 side window
welcome to the ncrs tdb. since you wanna keep the 60 vet as original as possible, and because the likelihood of finding a correctly dated 60 vet pass door glass isn extremely remote, I suggest you replace the broken glass with a correctly dated glass from Auto City Glass co. they are online. you will need to determine what month you'd like auto city to date your new glass. you will need the approximate date your dad's 60 was built, then subtract a couple months from its build date. all this info can be determined with the use oa a 1958-1960 NCRS judging manual( which you can purchase at this site). good luck. mike mccagh- Top

Welcome to NCRS Tech Board.
As stated before, replace with a dated glass. You might examine "Glass Bug" on that window and compare to glass date on driver's window. Then compare to car's "birthday". An approximate build date for car can be determined by VIN.
Image below is of a 1960 Side Glass. In this case, red star sits below two character glass' manufacture date - here "YU".
AS2 is for laminated side glass. Below is also a LOF Glass Date Decode Chart. First letter is month, second letter is year.
2nd image below is what windshield glass "bug" looks like - "AS 1"

Before you start disassembly take a ton of pictures of where each fastener is located.
Measure things and make marks with a pencil say tracing the head of a bolt to its location in the door frame.
Mark each fastener, bag and tag if necessary to keep it all straight.
This procedure will at least get you back to a starting point of where the window originally started life, then fine adjust from there.
You will want to examine the rollers, guides and stops etc.
While you are in there lubricate the mechanisms with he correct lubricant. White grease deteriorates plastic.
Note if the door hinges are worn out fix that before trying to get a good adjustment on the window(s).
You know you might as well (MAW) do the same to the passenger side as far as inspection & lubrication. it will prevent trouble down the road from lack of lubrication. Plus treat it like a brake job. Only take one side apart at a time so you can use the other side as a visual reference.
