Can someone explain to me why the NCRS has over 1.5 million dollars in assests? Most of which is cash and CD's. Are we trying to reach some goal? Shouldn't we be using this money for something useful? Maybe lower the cost of membership or entry fees at Judging shows. Having belonged to several organizations over the last 50 years I fail to see why we have such a large nestegg.

From the peanut gallery.
My local Chapter is small, around 36 members. Our account is around $4k, or about $100 per member.
Some years back we investigated putting on a Regional. Costs for an acceptable venue were around $5k per day - $15k. That was for a location only - not to mention other expenses. Bottom-line was no way we could afford putting on a Regional. Expenses now days are even higher.
$100 per member over NCRS' membership would be north of $1M. $1.5M doesn't seem to much for me given economic vagaries our Board faces.
These days, I would not expect cost of membership or judging fees to be declining.
Again, from the peanut gallery

Re: Question for Board
I have another question for the board, although I have an inclination as to what the answer is:
Looking at the Financial Statement in the latest Restorer:
What is the nature of the "Litigation" that the $107,344 charge in 2023 was for? That's roughly 200 Hours of Attorney Fees. Seems like a lot of legal work for an organization that hasn't had any significant legal issues in the 30 years I've been a member. What is the projected charge for "Litigation" for 2024 going to be?- Top

Re: Question for Board
Don, as expected I don't thing we will hear from the powers to be!
David, you state you don't think 1.56mil is too much, but what are we saving it for?
I would just like to know why that money is not being used for benefitting the membership.- Top

Re: Question for Board
There have been a number of discussions where the forum/website software has been stated as outdated, antiquated and in need of a "refresh." It would not surprise to learn our leadership is anticipating those upgrades and saving for the rainy day.Tom Russo

Re: Question for Board
I've concluded social media is junk news and a method for those with grievances to vent. But it is used by younger generations extensively and I suppose why are elder leaders drift to it as cure for the rapidly declining membership. I doubt it will attract large numbers...they are there to vent, socialize and connect. I came across this quote by Walter Lippmann, a leading journalist of the twentieth century.
While television is supposed to be ‘free,’ it has in fact become the creature, the servant and indeed the prostitute of merchandising.
Lippmann would be abhorred at online subscriptions where the comprehension of news is rudely disrupted by pop-up ads, video blasts and the constant irrelevant, salacious-ad prompts that interfere with news comprehension. Lippmann would find the merchandising of the internet, as equally prostituting as the introduction of mass-commercialized television in the 1950s.Tom Russo

I know Tony's response wasn't directed at me, but I can't help but wonder what has happened to the transparency that was promised by Tony and the administrative officers in the many Town Halls. I think this thread would be an excellent opportunity to display that promised transparency.Terry- Top
