    Rich,
Thanks for the input. I will closely inspect the gear. It is do an oil change so i will look at the oil closely with a magnet. I might even pull a sample to send to a lab. I will keep you updated.

    Thanks.
    Mike

        Re: 1966 427/390 distributor shaft

I have a question on the upper bushing as well. First, my original has the hole lined up with the cut out, the new one i received is 90 deg off. I called the company i bought it from to see if the have one like mine. Does this hole have to be lined up with the cut out? Second, at what positionbushing.jpg is this bushing put in? I am guessing the cut out aligns with the tach drive hole. Picture attached.

Also what is the difference between the standard shaft and hi-perf one? I bought the hi-perf since my car is a 427. The one i removed is a standard.

Perfect! So all of the damage appears to be inside the housing right where the shaft and bushing are. If it's from a broken tach gear, I'm doubting anything large made it through and to the oil pan.

Hi Mike, Been a while we spoke. I see your distributor project and I'm wondering who's setting up the bushings. The bushings need to be aligned and reamed to spec. through both bushings in the same plane. Give me a call if you want as there are a number of parts of your distributor to consider.
How did the shroud project work out? Hope all's well.

The only difference between any of the distributor mainshafts is the configuration of the "auto-cam" brazed to the top of the shaft. There were originally many different configurations.
