1963 AC Delco Replacement Shock Absorbers & Labels

Just purchased front and rear AC Delco shock absorbers, 530-315 & 530-4. Given that these will be judged as service replacements (made in Mexico, no date stamping), will it matter that much if the label is painted over or left visible?

    Thanks,
    Fred

Fred, give yourself the a better chance to garner the most points, I would remove the Delco label since factory never had labels on 63.

        Fred,

By taking off the labels you might get fewer points deducted for the front shocks, since the writing/date is nearly impossible to see on the front shock when installed. For the rears, the writing is pretty easily seen, so you should lose some points for the rears.

Gary, I think no matter how you look the shocks they are considered a service replacement. Shocks labels were only used on a ZO6 model only. The shocks were slightly configured different. I think most judges would see a date deduction and possible a configuration deduct depending on judges.

Yes, but I still see no downside to removing the labels.

FWIW, if it were my car, I would remove the label.

              Regards,

If it was my car, I'd remove the labels fill in the letter/numbers and Made in Mexico stampings, paint them shock absorber gray and add the small white label stickers. I think that is the getting these replacement shocks as close as you can get them. That's my opinion, and not my car.

Just buy the Monroe 5906 and 5850 shocks and do nothing but hang them on the car.. Nothing made today more closely resembles the old Pliacel shocks.

Thanks Don but already purchased the AC Delco's - good to know about the Monroe's though.

Yep - '63 shocks were black, no labels.

One of the members in our Texas Chapter mentioned filling in the stampings - way too much to do to get ready for judging - gonne have to pick my battles

                              Fred,
The AC Delco shocks you bought are made by Monroe...just an FYI.
