    Replaced engine block

I'm a new member. At a recent car show was alerted to my engine serial # . I didn't realize that if the serial # had a"JP" it was a restamp. So I dug through my records of past owners and found that the block was replaced and re stamped . When I purchased the car aprx 45 yrs ago I checked the serial # on front right side of the engine against the tag and it matched so being young and not informed I thought it was an original engine. It does appear that the engine has all the other components from the original engine except the block . This is an 1966 L79 Coupe Air Car , did the value of my car just go into the dumper .

    Re: Replaced engine block

Can you post a picture of the stamp pad?

I am going to suggest the suffix on the block is not JP, as that is a 1969 396 (big block) engine code.
And, I've not heard of any JP in the serial number sequence.

      Welcome to the TDB, James...

per the Lime engine code book by Ed McComas:

JP is a 1969 Passenger car engine code: 396 ci; 265 hp; 2 Barrel Carb; Powerglide
      thx,

A clear hi definition photo of all the stamp pad taken as straight on as possible would be helpful. Reduces speculation. Also photos of the casting number and casting date. They are fairly accessible on a midyear.

James - Let me add my 'Welcome to the TDB'. For the 1966 model year, I don't see any engine suffixes that start with a 'J'.
The closest I find is 'HP' and that is for the L79 with Factory A/C and Power Steering.

OP may have had a typo..."J" is right next to the "H" on the keyboard.

              Welcome to NCRS' Tech Board.

More important than your stamp pad, is your engine's casting number and casting date.

You'll find casting number on driver side rear of block.

Below is a link to John Hinckley's article on casting numbers.

If you can, get a photo of that casting number.

By chance did you grow up in Seattle and have a brother named Scott?
