"... any ball joint as long as it’s riveted in? ..." Nuts & bolts are not OEM "and should be recognized as such."
That "recognized" translates to a Configuration deduction on Originality. There are 4 Originality and 4 Condition points assigned to Upper and Lower Ball Joints for 1968-1972 Flight judging. Bolted in ball joints would likely get you a 1 point (out of 4500 points) deduction for Originality.
Cost/difficulty of riveting in replacements vs a 1 point deduction is your call.
There was a recent thread on this TB re riveting ball joints - Tracy Crisler had a Restorer article.

I used Moog for my A-Arm rebuild.

Note that we're currently using the 6th edition, and the wording may have changed.
I have seen deductions for non-OEM ball joints, even if riveted in place.

C2 judging doesn't have that "For safety reasons ..." qualification. Expect to see harsher judging there.
That said, C2 only has 5 & 5 spread over three items: Lower A-Arms, ball joints, and hardware. Doesn't seem like it would move judging outcome no matter what you did.

Re: Qu on Ball Joints 70-72 JMG 5th edition
Thanks all. I think ill go with moog and have them riveted in. I plan to have a rebuilder do it so no extra effort on my part. Any comments on the ball joints from AFC? American made?- Top
