Hi, Greg T retired from antenna restoriations so I have to do a bit of work on a 65 antenna unit. Thankfully, the drive cable and mast is intact but I will need to cut through the coating to open it. Does anyone know where I can find the coating material to recoat the unit after I finish repairs??? Thanks in advance...

Charles,
The amber coating material that Greg Thompson used is listed in one of the postings in this thread:

Re: 65 - 66 Power Antenna Coating Material ?
I called Dipseal and ordered the coating material today. They are located in Rockford IL. It costs $4 lb. They will sell to you directly. The challenge is that you need a deep pot in order to dip the unit so you need an ample amount of material. I ordered 15 lbs. I will post whether that is enough material to coat a unit.- Top

Dipseal says the diping process is very straight forward and you will get an even coat of material on the body. I think the challenge is getting that amount of material in a tall pot up to the correct 350 degrees; too cold and the material gets thicker. I plan to work on it next week and I will let you know how it goes. Dipseal says it can always be removed for a retry....- Top

Make sure you open or clean out the drain hole at the bottom. If you don't do that it will eventually end up filling up with water/moisture and have the same rusty and broken drive cable again. Best to use a golf tee and plug the hole before dipping. I also recommend that you lube the mast at least once a year with white grease, regular grease or even oil to keep the mast lubed. Extend it all the way up and down when you are lubricating the mast. You cannot over lubricate the mast within reason. Just make sure the excess does not run down on the paint!!Last edited by Tim L.; September 23, 2024, 08:36 PM.- Top
