Restorers in the Rocky Mountain Region

    Hi all,
My '67 L79 is in need of a refresh. The fuel economy is very poor and my cylinder leakdown testing indicates that the rings are bad. The 4-speed is also in need of a rebuild. The paint has some sort of bubbling defect predominantly on the rear quarters, so a re-spray might also be in order. It's a fully numbers-matching car, so I want to get it done right, even if it means shipping the car somewhere. Are there any full-service shops in the Rockies that anyone can recommend? If not, where would you suggest? My number 1 priority is the trustworthiness of the shop and the quality of the work. If I have to ship it out of the region to get that, so be it, but hoping there's someone closer to home if possible. Sadly, Lars informed me that he's no longer doing engines himself, or he would have been my first port of call. Thanks in advance for your advice/suggestions.

    Welcome to Tech Board.

As you live in Colorado, I'd suggest you join Rocky Mountain Chapter (info below) will likely get you more contacts.

[if you live on Western Slope, Arizona Chapter (Phoenix) might be a better bet.]

Unlikely you'll find a "full service" shop that does engines/paint/etc all in-house.

Before you do anything, might be worthwhile to get a Chapter Flight Judging. Regardless of outcome, those judging sheets will make a great baseline for your restoration.

In particular, you will find some things are $$$$ to correct but are worth few judging points. And some things that are a cheap fix, relative to points gained.

Flight judging is not a cleaning contest. There are 4500 points in Flight judging, with just 80 total of those points addressing cleanliness. Folks sometimes, by cleaning, destroy a lot of things judges check for Originality.

Just submit your car and see what you've got.

Thanks Rick--I appreciate the invite, and will sign up later today. My priority is the engine, so any recommendations on that would be a great start, as the other issues are cosmetic and can be deferred as needed.
