    Larry,
I paid the same here in the Detroit area about 3 weeks ago. I just buy 5 gallons at a time and mix half of that with 89 octane methanal free rec gas and that probably gets me to 91 or so. Car starts fast and runs great with it.

The aviation method of octane rating is about the same as the motor method, and since PON = (R+M)/2 and the difference (called the "sensitivity") is in the range of 8-10, the approximate PON of 100LL avgas is 104-105, so in a 50-50 blend with 89 PON, the approximate PON of the blend is 95.5-96.5, which is in the ballpark of 100 RON, and that's about the same as the best "premiums" of the sixties that were typically in the range of 97-100 RON.

Does your engine with that funky "Miller cycle" camshaft actually need that much octane?

JMHO>Every time this subject comes up we get into the "octane" talk. Even though my L72 needs the octane that IS NOT
THE MAIN REASON I BUY IT AND USE IT STRAIGHT; NO BLENDING. THE MAIN REASON I USE THIS IS THE
FACT IT WILL NOT GUM UP AND SOUR LIKE THE GAS WE BUY AT THE PUMP. By blending it you reduce the time
it will stay fresh. If you search this board you will see that there are cases where airplanes have been stored a long
time for various reason and still START UP AFTER THE AV GAS WAS TESTED AFTER 15 YEARS! Larry

Larry, any issues with your fast idle? The reason I ask is that I have been running straight 110 leaded in my L71 and it seems like it's too slow burning for it to function properly. If I use a 50/50 mix of non ethanol unleaded, it works great. That said, I share your concern about pump fuel going bad hence my question.

Steve: No issues with mine on the fast idle. Not sure why yours is doing so. SIMPLY PUT>100LL AV GAS IS THE CLOSEST
GAS AVAILABLE NOW THAT COMPARES TO THE GAS THAT WAS AVAILABLE WHEN CHEVROLET DESIGNED YOUR ENGINES BACK THEN PERIOD!! WHEN YOU BLEND IT YOU ARE CHANGING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE GAS.

I am fortunate enough to be able to roll out to the self serve 100 octane LL pump at my local municipal airport and fill up. No questions just take my cars out and fill up.
Lots of discussion about needed and not needed to burn this fuel. My experience in my 69 Z, 67 L36, 65 L78, 67 L79, all run well on this fuel. May not be needed but seems to me runs well. Hope you guys have the same experience.

                        Lawrence,
It's great that you can do that but here in Michigan, if road taxes are not added, it is illegal to put fuel in a road vehicle. It is legal to fill a portable container. Makes it more difficult but for the amount I use it is doable.

Lawrence: Sounds like you have a good game plan. Never heard of a "self-serve" 100LL Dispenser. That airport must
sell a lot for weeders/lawn mowers/and etc.. My airport also sells a lot for non-airplanes/auto's use. How much are you
                          paying for a gallon?? Thanks-Larry

Yes, this is a bit unusual to say the least. I am waiting for the hammer to come down one day. However, in Fl little towns I do the same thing. The self serve pumps are in Fl too.I pay $6.02 right now for the fuel. Forgot to mention the 69 L71 loves it too but that goes without saying.

                              Jeff,

Which airpot did you get it from?
                              Troy?

I have a 14gal "dispenser" to mitigate accumulating 5 gal cans.
