1963 Latest Rear Spring Cushion Cup Order From ZIP

Lots of previous older threads on size and finish but thought I would show what Zip is currently shipping. The "tower" measures 3/8" height (as best I can measure with it still in plastic) and 7/8" inside diameter and is in zinc finish (as described in the JM).
Anyone find something different from other vendors?

Yep - I thought the "tower" was shorter but the JM does specify Zinc as the finish. I may try Corvette Central or Corvette Pacifica to see if there is any difference.

These are originals removed from the main leaf spring on my 1965. I know the '65 TIMJG specifies a natural steel finish.

Maybe I should have read a little further as I too thought they were natural finish. Here are two sentences from the 7th Edition of the '63-64 JM. Under Spring Assembly, Mounting, and Cushion;
1) "Each end of the longest spring leaf has a silver cadmium or zinc shallow cup used in the spring-attachment assembly".
2) "Steel cushion retainers with a natural finish, were crimped into the lower spring leaf and rear of the trainling arm to hold the rubber cushions".

Those two sentences are obviously inconsistent. I think sentence #1 is old and was meant to be deleted and replaced by sentence #2 during a revision of the JG.

Yep - there are a couple of other sections that contain confusing verbiage as well but a lot of work goes into these manuals - easy to have a miss here and there.

You might contact Joe Scafidi and ask if those conflicting sentences are on his revision list. When the new 63/64 JG comes out, probably later this year, everyone wants it to be as mistake-free as possible. It would be a shame for the revision team to miss something simple.

I emailed Corvette Central today to ask them about the finish on theirs (for '63). Their main photo online shows natural finish but in their photos that compare the earlier version to the later (taller collar), it appears to have a zinc-type finish. Will see what they respond with and let you know.

And just where do the early style retainer cups that Corvette Central shows on their website fit into the scheme of things in terms of finish?

Can't the zinc finish be removed with an acid like vinegar or muriatic acid so you're left with just the bare steel?
