Want to borrow or rent 62 4-speed shift lever gauge block

I need the shift lever gauge block for a 62 4-speed.

A place in Canada has them, but wants $55 for shipping.

A place in Michigan is out of stock.

Anybody have one I could borrow or rent?

Are you talking about a device to line up the shift rods properly?

The dimensions for this aid is given in the 1961 passenger car Chevy service manual, which is another must have for working on your car. The tool is easy to make.

When these tools first came out, I bought one. I asked an old-time mechanic at a Chevy dealership how to use it properly. He said, use it initially to make adjustments, then take it out and feel with your fingers if everything is aligned. The tool assumes all transmissions are built the same, some are different. By feeling, you may decide to move one slightly as a final adjustment. Just me 2 cents.

T10 may be different, but with a Muncie:

          1- Disconnect shift rods

2- Visually line up shifter and rod levers to neutral position instead of using a tool

3- Adjust the rod lengths then reconnect without clips

4- Check that the shifter moves feely left/right in neutral gate

5- Repeat as needed then add rod clips

6- Check operation through gears. Reverse may need additional adjusting

If you have it, adjust back up light switch too.

So I made the gauge and gave it to the mechanic. He says "neutral is now neutral" but that it jumps out of gear.

I'm going to try to drive it on some back streets tomorrow.

This car hasn't been driven in 35 or 40 years. trans has not been taken apart. It was drained and I put in new gear oil. Could the old oil have become "gunk?"

Did it jump out of gear before the linkage adjustment? I ask because this symptom usually indicates transmission wear rather than the shifter out of adjustment.

If it jumps out of a specific gear, that points to a synchro or maybe worn gear. That gear will usually be difficult to shift into as well, especially when downshifting.

If it jumps out of all gears, it could be all the synchros are worn (less likely) or a wobbly mainshaft due to a bad pilot bushing.

I'm not a transmission expert but that's my personal experience. Maybe a transmission guru will chime in.

A mechanic at the shop made a gauge for me using 3D printing.
