Question regarding rear brake caliper hard lines 1972 LS5

    Hi all,

My rear caliper hard lines are spiral shielded. I ordered a new set and they came without it which the vendor believes may be correct. The 5th edition (70-72) judging manual shows a picture of a rear caliper with the armor line and the rear sway bar (standard on BB cars like mine). This would make sense since the rear sway bar hardware is so close to the line. Any suggestions on what would be considered typical or correct? Thanks!

Go with the armor. Your lines are more than likely to be original, the judging manual shows them as original. The vendor probably doesn't have a source for the armor style, and doesn't want to lose a sale....... Find another vendor.......

I'm inclined to believe they are original based on the history of the car. The vendor is solid, will give me whatever I want, he's going on the thought the armor was for 65-66 and high performance option cars. Also, based on how close the rear sway is to the line, armor does make sense.

My 67 427/390 BB has armored lines. So my car must be a "special".........with only a side pipe option....... no power brakes, steering, AC etc.

Interesting discussion. I think every C3 rear trailing arm brake line I've seen is armored. Are some not?

At least 68-72, all cars without the rear sway bar, DID NOT have the armor on the line.
Those cars with a rear sway bar, used an armor protector, which guarded the line from the lower sway bar link bolts.

I'm probably not saying anything new, but all big blocks and automatic cars do have the armor shield on the rear brake caliper lines
