On the NCRS Facebook page, that was linked to in another recent thread, is a question about modern formulas for Argent Silver wheel paint. One of the replies is:

First you have to accept there was no special wheel color...they used leftover body paint from other St Louis lines...try 1970 green mist iridescent ...lighter from the unstirred top of the barrel

I've never heard this before and am skeptical GM would do it. Additionally, Argent Silver on wheels was used in other assembly facilities across the country so how were their paint stocks supplied?

Any truth to it?

I just commented on it.

There has been a GM paint code for Argent Silver since at least 1968.
Given that, there has to be a specific paint used.

The GM paint code for Argent Silver is WA3024.

I thought I read from John Hinckly that all GM wheels were painted with enamel-based paint and that is the only where enamel was used.
