67' Corvette inside door panel hardware removal/re-installation

I have to remove the inside door trim panel of my 67' to repair and re-install the 2 window cranks but am now stumped when it comes to removing the circular "LOCK" knob... I assume it has a horseshoe clip behind the door trim panel, but how do I get under it with the clip removing tool without damaging the door panel?

Thanks Gary, and I do have access to the page you've shared. So there is just enough margin of room to insert the clip removing tool from the bottom as you mention? If so, would you also blue tape the trim panel in that immediate area before using the tool for removal?

You can borrow my tool if that would help. Or maybe some company makes one comparable in size to my homemade tool.

          James,

I did the same thing Gary did except I used an old credit card.
trace the shape on one end
cut it out (I think I did mine with scissors)
buff off the edges (sprue) if any...

it'll slide behind there and won't mar the vinyl

I've done it at least 4 times on my '67

          good luck
          thx,
          Mark

            James,
when had to remove them, I use a "pick" that is use to remove O-Rings from their grove.
I push on the door panel with my fingers to get just a little room to get the pick in their, I hook the clip, pull up and it will come right off
takes about 30 sec and it is off........

Many thanks gentlemen for all of your knowledge and experience! I just happen to have 2 old credit cards (each of a different thickness as well). At this point I'll try fabricating a "clip remover" and try my luck! Have a great day and thanks again!

Get an old T-shirt and cut a 1" x12" piece out of it. See-saw the strip of cloth behind the knob and the cloth will catch the clip and pull it right out. Additionally, the cloth will not mar the door panel. Easy peasy!!
Install the clip on the knob prior to re-installing...push the knob on the shaft and the clip will catch...done.
