Re: Help! Both sets of keys lost 1970

Breakthrough! I discovered this key in the console of my '93. It's a 70s vintage hardware store key that came with the 1970 when I acquired it in 1990. I think the previous owner used this key as his daily to preserve the originals. What's important is it works in the doors and ignition!

Last fall I placed this key in the console of my '93 before driving to Frisco Regional. I knew Steve Walker would be there and wanted him to read its code so I would have a record of it. Steve said it's so worn he can't reliably read the code so I put it back in the '93 and forgot about it. At the time I kicked myself for not bringing one of the two good sets (I didn't want to risk misplacing them during the show) but now I'm grateful.

I feel like this key fell from heaven- now there's no need to fish around with dental mirrors and/or tear the interior apart. :-) The glove box/spare tire key is a much easier and less urgent problem.

A lesson for all of us: Record your key codes!

I want to give a shout out to Gary Beaupre.

Without asking he cut a key based on the photo above and sent it to me! And it works! And his help doesn't stop there. There's no key code stamped on the storage compartment lock, so Gary suggested I mail the spare tire lock to him so he can pick it and discern the key code for these locks.

      Thanks Gary!

I encourage all of you to visit his site: www.garybeaupre.com . He offers a variety of NOS parts in addition to locks and keys.

Why do you need keys? Whoever locks or drives their cars anyway? lol
