Rear Lower Shock Mount

67 - Chasing down some rattles. Came across some missing rubber bushings on a rear shock and noticed the lower mount was not aligned properly. The impression I got is that the flats on the threaded end should key the position and the knurl on the opposite side further locks it into place once the nut is tightened.

Can these brackets twist or bend under load?

I see the twist which mine does not have. However two different brackets were available, one reg susp - two HP. Assume it's on your 67, the photo's are from my Mar64, reg susp. The bracket can twist so I would remove and look for any damage on it

I should have been more specific on suspension type. 427/400hp F40 suspension (standard). I pull the castle nut and luckily the d-shaped hole on the spindle holder fork was not rounded. I've heard this can happen. I think the problem may have been the incorrect torque on the nut as it was way below what it should have been and tightening it to speck closed the fork up and force the knurling on the support to pull into the fork much deeper. The driver's side was also not up to spec but it was oriented correctly.

There still a very small gap between the flat on the shaft and the fork, but at this point I'll just keep an eye on it.

Went through all of the fasteners for the suspension and other mounts and most needed tightening. Base on owning the car for only 1 year and knowing the awards history, my guess is that it was a typical "trailer queen" for the last 15-20 years. Lots of incidentals that required attention now that it's actually driven more often.

Is it possible that you have two driver side mounts installed ?

The flat on the spindle support fork is on the bottom which corresponds to the position of the flat on the shock support. In my case, after I removed the nut, there was a slight angle mis-match between the flats. That could be the result of wear, or perhaps the nut not being tightened to spec thereby pulling the knurling on the other side into the other fork. The correct spec is 70-80 pd.ft., and mine was around 50.
That's my hope at least as the worse case alternative is to replace the spindle support. The image below (red line) illustrates my situation.
