Are the holes for the rotating vent door drilled completely through the vent sleeve? Or, were they shallow-drilled with a bottom rather than a straight through hole. Hope that makes sense....

Re: 1964 Fresh Air Vents
Ron,
If I'm understanding you correctly, the two 'pins' that the doors pivot on are installed into two shallow holes that do have a bottom. The stationery pin on one end goes into it's hole while the spring loaded pin is retracted so it can be located in the other hole. Or you can install the spring loaded pin first and compress it so the stationery pin can be located in the other hole. The two new fresh air doors I ordered had two issues - the spring loaded pin was installed upside down so when the spring was compressed, the pin got longer and the stationery pin was 1/4" longer than the originals and wouldn't fit into the opening until cut to the correct length of the originals. Sounds crazy but that's what they sent.- Top

Re: 1964 Fresh Air Vents
Thank you Arland for the reply. I have both an original door on which I put a new seal and an aftermarket one. I see what you mean about the solid shaft end - the after-market one is 1/8" longer than the original. So, out comes the hacksaw, and I should be good. I thought I remember reading somewhere that there was not a left vs. a right door, so the door could be used on either side. On a related issue - I purchased a new vent cover for the driver's side. The manufacturer did not drill the hole for the cable bracket, nor cut out the hole for the cable. Interesting that they did not do that, but will have to make it like the passenger side cover.- Top
