Under hood alarm switch on Oct 69 car?

Should there be one and if so where located? Can't find evidence of one on my car nor in the AIM. My old Paragon catalog shows one but I cannot determine location.

Hi Kieth, Welcome to Corvette detective work.

If you are looking for a switch at the rear of the hood on the passenger side of the car ....The switch you are looking for is not a hood ajar switch (there is no such thing on a C3). it is likely an alarm switch for the UA6 alarm system, which your car may or may not have been originally equipped with. The AIM shows that in the options section at the rear of the manual.

    1) If you don't have any original documentation to determine the options your car came with, some options that required body modifications (such as UA6) are listed on the engine compartment driver's side toe board. Behind the gravel shield.

    2) Look in the jack compartment. Remove the storage box and look toward the front of the car. Is there wiring and a relay and a flasher? Yes = UA6. No = no UA6.

    3) Does your 1969 have a lock at the rear above the C O R V E T T E letters? If this panel has not been replaced a lock will indicate the UA6 alarm option. No lock = no alarm.

    4) Lower the spare and look above it for signs of body work that may have filled in a hole for the lock in the rear panel,

I have listed the steps I would take in their order of difficulty. If you are younger and more agile than I, which is highly likely, you may find one or more of these steps easier than the others. Have fun.

      Hi Kieth,
Looking back at the photos you sent me in your “My Corvette Story” your car does have the alarm key switch in the back panel above the Corvette letters. So, it had the alarm option. Another very easy sign to check for, and that would be to look up in the left rear fender well above the muffler. That’s where the alarm horn was mounted. ( unless someone removed it) ! Here’s a photo showing the under hood alarm switch (yellow arrow) on a 69. Note: It works in conjunction with the two rear door jamb switches.
      Hope this helps.

        Another place to check?
Do the '69s with UA6 have the second door plunger-switch at the bottom, rear of the B-pillar like my '72?

How did the title of the thread get switch from a hood ajar switch?

I would have answered differently in my above post had the title been what it is now.

            Terry,
I changed it to what I thought it should be, based on what I've read in the answers. If the title doesn't fit, I can change it back again..

No Don, the title now fits the subject and will make it easier for searchers to find the thread should they need some information. Had I thought Keith knew it was an alarm switch he was looking for I could have been more brief and to that point rather than using too many words providing him information that was already provided to Keith by Jimmy off the board. My initial post turned out to be a waste of time for a lot of us, and for no good reason.

              Rant over. I'm done.

                Hi Terry,
I don't think your initial post was a waste of time by any means. Everything you mentioned was great information, especially for a new member reading through the posts on the discussion board. Even more useful/beneficial to an owner who is new to all this restoration stuff.
I always enjoy reading your posts, especially when they relate to the C3's.
