I have been having trouble with second gear. reverse, 1st 3rd and fourth are fine but I could not get into second gear because of the throw. I had an after market adjuster and I then compared it to the original.IMG_1659.jpgplease notice after market is over a half inch shorter. I put in original and now I can get it into gear but I still have problems getting into second gear. If I don't put clutch all the way to the floor it won't go in. I do not seem to have the problem with third and fourth gear nor reverse. Only rarely with first and most often in second. it is so hard to get it into second gear at the shifter. any thoughts but I think it may have to do with the clutch but I have adjusted as much as possible. maybe this has to do with repro throw out bearing. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Re: 1966 shifter linkage issues
Joseph,
Someone, probably a PO, has modified your shift arms by adding a second hole in an effort to shorten the shift lever throw between shifts. If you return your shift rods to the upper hole your problems will be eliminated. I notice the upper shift lever (the black one) appears to have the engagement corners slightly deformed. If so, this will allow the lever to "rock" some without moving the shift fork inside your tranny. Either dimple those corners until you get a tight fit or better yet replace the arm. Check back after trying the above and let us know results. Bill- Top
