    C6 Tire Replacement

I saw a couple of older threads on this but would appreciate some more current input on new tires for my 2008 convertible with Z51 suspension. Just bought the car with 17,000 miles on it and still has the original Goodyear F1 EMT's on it. (Dated 2007 and 2008).

Would like to go with a performance all season tire. Run flat or non-run flat.

A search of Tire Rack shows the following: Nothing for Goodyear, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 ZP run flat, Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 non-run flat, Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus non-run flat, BF Goodrich G-Force Comp 2 A/S Plus non-run flat, Cooper Cobra Instinct non-run flat.

More options in non-run flats for some reason.

I'd probably prefer run-flats for obvious reasons as long I don't sacrifice ride quality and noise levels.

Any experiences with any of these? Any other brands I should consider? I would appreciate any input.

    Thanks

You will not be disappointed with the Michelin ZP or non-ZP tires. They are both excellent. I just put a set of ZP's on my 2006, I had the non-ZP's prior. I need the ZP as the car is being PV'd. No ZP (runflats) and you automatically fail the PV.

Please don't throw out the current tires. There are those of us who would love to have them someday for judging.

On my 2008 Z51 I went with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport ZP. This tire is MUCH better than the original Goodyears, and is a runflat.
You live in Michigan like me, and I would stay with a summer tire, not an all season. As long as it's above 40 degrees, you're fine.
These Michelins perform very well even in heavy rains, so you're not giving up anything with a summer-only tire.

Tom, like Harry and Patrick I replaced my Goodyear front and rear tires in my 2007 (build date 6-06) just prior to my PV last month in Las Vegas. The reason is obvious the Goodyears were 18 years old and showed a lot of wear, not conducive for a drive of over 400 miles in the deserts. My attempts to purchase new Goodyears were met with the following. (1) I could purchase the rear tires when they when back into production, and (2) they told me they were not going to build anymore front tires that were applicable for the 2007 run flats. I purchased Michelin S/S ZP, run flats. A great tire and they passed the P/V requirement for right sized run flats. My next endeavor will present the car at the Regional in Arizona April 2025, where I will receive a standard deduction of 60% or 24 judging points oh well Sierra Hotel, 97% is the magic number. Harry will have his Wallace M/E this year, I'm jealous he will be the first, you know what they say (if you come in second the view never changes, always looking at the rear end). May the PV Gods be with you Harry.

Is there any estimate of when 2008’s will qualify for judging?

                Thanks
To me the ride felt the same, but I do have the Z51 suspension and that is a rough ride all by itself.

The Team Leader, Pete Bergman, has started on the 2008 - 20XX Judging Guide. I do not know when he will publish it.

If history dictates the future, the 2005 - 2007 cars started judging 2023, so 18 years for the 2005 cars. Saying that, 2008 + 18 gives you 2026 to start judging the 2008's. Just a guess on my part.

I put non-run flat Bridgestone Potenzas on my '07 at apx 45k miles, replacing the non-RF's a prior owner had on it, likely at the 15k mile mark when those original EMTires fizzed out. The Potenzas are excellent tires.

One caveat. The tires have a higher load and speed rating, and max pressure at (i recall around) 51psi. The C6 TPMS will trigger a High Pressure flag if I run them over 40 psi iirc.

So whatever you choose, keep in mind you will get a constant High Pressure trigger Each and Every time you drive and will be annoyed with hitting the "Dimiss/Reset" button constantly.

BTW, The salt air here in Eastern Florida is nasty too. I'm about a mile from the Intracoastal Waterway, a brackish outlet called the Indian River. About 3 miles east is the Sebastian Inlet which leads to the Atlantic.

We'd do the loop ride in my '59(winter) or '07(summer) every Sunday, up to Melbourne, cross over the river and head south on A1A(barrier islands), along the beaches for about 25 miles, crossing over the tall ocean inlet bridge, down to Vero Beach, cross back over to the mainland then north back home on Rte 1.

After arrival I'd have to give the ridden Corvette a thorough wash job, both upper and under. The salt would be in every nook and cranny.

Folks that live beachside with cars outside? They rust out worse than if they used them in the snow belt!

Tom, summer tire. I do not believe you can get an all season in a Michelin high performance tire.

Tom, Ok. Select what you think you will need. Check the rear also for all season.
