Should I restore this jack before having the car judged?

    Hi all,
This is the type 1 jack from my '63, for maximum points, should I leave as is, or strip it and repaint before having the car judged?

The rivets also seem to have play, no idea how tight they were when new, anything I can do about it, or should I just leave them alone?

I also need a replacement bolt (or rivet?) for the handle, any ideas?

    Many thanks as always,
    Paul

I agree with Brian...leave it be

That being said, if you have questions - Harry Ledgerwood is the guy to ask...

I did mine (type III), but it had been severely damaged...

A different opinion. This is the National Corvette RESTORERS Society. I'd be restoring it. JMHO.

Re: Should I restore this jack before having the car judged?

Thanks for the input guys, I'm also inclined to leave it alone if it don't make no nevermind for judging, 'kinda like the way it looks as is.
For what it's worth Leif, there likely isn't an other single square inch on the car that hasn't been restored, so at least there's that to offset the ugly jack!

FWIW>Age old decision. Let it be(Total Original with Wear/Appearance problems) or make it as when Chevrolet delivered the vehicle to the
dealer. I for one like my vehicles to look/work as when Chevrolet delivered these vehicles. This is why if I where in the market
to buy an older Corvette I would want it to have both "Top Flight" and "Concours"(Stock Class) Blue Ribbons. Not that these ribbons are
a know all but it does show some people with Corvette knowledge looked and judged this vehicle. We have all seen older Vettes
with the "Patina" on them that has earned "Top Flight" that some people really like but that is just not me. I like both>Number Originality and Appearance "AS DELIVERED". To each their own. Thanks>Larry

was the car ever painted ? I would restore it as you will probably loose less points.

Paul. My '63 jack appears to be in slightly better condition than yours and it has been through chapter, regional x 2 and national judging. Expected to lose some points, but only once received the comment "some aging" and no point loss. YMMV depending on the judges. I would leave it alone based on my experiences.

Paul tell the judges you had a flat on a dirt road on the way to the meet. To make matters worse the car slid off the jack causing more scratches
